What’s better than a warm apple crumble dessert after dinner, especially on a chili day. This recipe is particularly quick to pull together and everyone loves it! The most time consuming part is peeling and coring the apples. I use an inexpensive apple peeler/corer device to help the process go more quickly. Makes 6 servings.
INGREDIENTS
8 Granny Smith apples (approximately 4 cups)
1/2 cup water
1 T lemon juice
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats
pinch of salt
7 T Dairy Free Earth Balance buttery spread
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400°F
Grease an 8 x 8 baking dish.
Peel and core apples. Cut in 1/4 ” pieces.
In a large bowl, combine apples, water, lemon juice and cinnamon. Mix until apples are evenly coated and then transfer to the baking dish.
For the topping:
Combine sugar, flour, rolled oats and dairy free buttery spread (or butter if you prefer)
Using your hands or a pastry cutter, crumble the mixture together until it resembles pea-sized crumbs.
Spread the topping over the apples and bake for 40-50 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve warm topped with your favorite dairy-free vanilla ice cream!

Extra info:
I like the tart flavor of granny smith apples, but you can substitute other varieties. Sometimes a mix is good too!
If dairy is not an issue for you, use 7 T of regular butter.
