I love an appetizer that looks fancy, but comes together with little effort. This tart, which deliciously combines brie cheese and apple, is more fun than just putting out a hunk of brie with some apple garnish. This easy brie appetizer not only looks and tastes great, it is perfect for company.
Ingredients
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, completely thawed
8 oz. brie cheese, thinly sliced (generally available sliced or in rounds at the grocery store)
1 golden delicious apple, cored and thinly sliced
1/8 tsp each salt and pepper
2-3 tsp. honey
OPTIONAL: chopped roasted almonds, pomegranate seeds and/or rosemary for garnish
Directions
Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a flat cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out the puff pastry into a 12″ by 10″ rectangle on the cookie sheet covered with parchment paper, then fold 1/2 inch of edges to form a rim.
Poke holes in the pastry sheet with a fork all over to allow steam to vent in the oven before puffing the layers for a crispy crust
Top the pastry with a single layer of brie.
Next, place a layer of sliced apples on top of the brie.
Sprinkle 1/8 teaspoon each of the salt and pepper on top of the apples.
Bake 30 to 35 minutes until the tart is a deep golden brown.
Drizzle the tart with honey.
OPTIONAL: Garnish with almonds, pomegranate seeds and/or rosemary if desired
NOTE: Do not unfold the puff pastry until completely thawed to avoid cracking
