Turning 50 is a golden milestone in someone’s life. But while staying fit isn’t commonly associated with this age but is seen more as an unnecessary lifestyle choice, here are celebrities in their 50s and beyond that show reaching this age need not be the end of their fitness journey—in fact, it’s only just beginning!
Here are some of our favorite celebrity fitness tips:
Julianne Moore
Julianne Moore is the queen of the over-50 fitness game. The 56-year-old actress attributes her youthful appearance and enviable figure to a combination of yoga, acupuncture, and the occasional juice cleanse. She also actively avoids dairy, sugar, and alcohol, as they are a significant weight contributor.
While looking for a yoga center can be time-exhausting, keep in mind that you can always purchase your very own yoga mat and other home gym equipment.
Here are some yoga mats we like!

Gaiam Essentials Thick Yoga Mat Fitness & Exercise Mat with Easy-Cinch Yoga Mat Carrier Strap
BalanceFrom GoYoga All-Purpose 1/2-Inch Extra Thick High Density Anti-Tear Exercise Yoga Mat with Carrying Strap and Yoga Blocks
Michelle Pfeiffer
A timeless beauty, Michelle Pfeiffer is still being lauded in pop culture songs of Mark Ronson and Vance Joy.
This, however, takes effort. Michelle credits her agelessness in eating everything in moderation, adequate exercise, and full nights’ sleep. In 2019, the actress told the Sunday Times that she keeps her routine varied to avoid boredom, dabbling in yoga, Pilates, running, walking, and biking.
Pfeiffer has posted a video of herself dancing on a home treadmill on Instagram last year. A treadmill can also work wonders if you have limited or small spaces for fitness activities at home.
Louis Theroux
Louis Theroux stunned everyone during the first lockdown by revealing his newly ripped physique live on television. It has reportedly resulted from watching and copying Joe Wick’s daily HIIT workouts on YouTube and religiously sticking to the routine.
Furthermore, what helped in Louis’ fitness journey is having something non-negotiable every morning like dairy.
For Louis, having a fitness routine is a way to significantly boost his mood and improve his mental health, adding that strengthening his muscles is just a part of his dogged dedication to working out in the mornings.
As it is, there are dozens if not hundreds of fitspo or early-morning workout videos on YouTube. Instead of striving to lose some weight or being as fit as Louis, having a mindset that focuses on mental well-being, starting small, and dedicating yourself to a set routine can lead to results that may just surprise you!
Iman
The 61-year-old model-turned-cosmetics mogul keeps her fitness routine simple, starting her day with a protein shake or green juice and finding time for regular exercise, alternating between yoga, cardio, and weights. She also takes a mind-body class called IntenSati at Equinox.
Like Iman, many celebrities nowadays are turning to the detox and weight-loss powers of organic shakes and protein powders. Try to find a daily elixir that simultaneously invigorates your body to start your day right, and can act as a powerful antioxidant that cleanses your body.
John Stamos
Since his days on Full House, John Stamos has proven to be much more than a great hairstylist. The 53-year-old actor is also proof of what a good fitness routine can do for your body.
Stamos says he’s switched up his once weight-heavy workout routines in favor of swimming and Pilates, in addition to going to bed early and getting at least eight hours of sleep per night. These are all sound advice, as nearing or reaching your 50s can make you lose bone density and more prone to muscular strains and cramps.
As such, you should keep bodily strain at a minimum but remain consistent with regular exercise. Swimming, for instance, keeps the muscles taut with activity without putting unnecessary strain on them.
Halle Berry
When Halle Berry found out that she had diabetes, she began focusing on feeling fit more than looking fit. Her routine includes doing yoga, stretching, sprinting fast, and working with her body weight with weights and resistance bands. She also practices martial arts, which is an excellent all-arounder that provides cardio, strength training, and flexibility. Hard martial arts training has also been shown to be beneficial to the mind.
Berry has made her workout routine an act of self-care than an activity she had to do every day. This change of narrative enabled her to remain consistent with a set routine instead of feeling forced to exercise.
Meryl Streep
Meryl Streep is well into her late sixties, and as one of the world’s most talented actresses, her decades-long career and fitness routine are more intertwined than you might think.
“When I swim my 55 laps, I try to remember the movies I’ve been in order,” she tells The Guardian.
However, Streep’s dedication to health and wellness goes far beyond the surface. In a speech she made at Indiana University, she reiterates not putting much concern or worrying about weight and instead focusing one’s energies on better things that stimulate both the mind and body. In doing so, one can remain mentally and physically fit and healthy.
From a Hollywood ball-buster like Meryl Streep, this advice is worth taking to heart!
Sharon Stone
Sharon Stone is still as fit and fabulous at 59 as she was in her 30s. How does she maintain her motivation? A simple desire to maintain her shape has kept her svelte all these years, actively avoiding caffeine, nightshades, and liquor, as well as limiting her dairy intake.
While she keeps a close eye on her diet, the actress admits that her workout routine is as fun as it is fit, opting to dance instead of carrying around heavy weights or dabbling on resistance bands. She recommends dancing like nobody is watching.
In addition, she admits that being a mom loses a lot of weight off her—especially when she chases her kids around!
The Healthy Take
While many celebrities have access to on-call personal trainers, private chefs, and nutritional counseling, celebrities are humans too, their fab fitness advice is something we can all learn from, as well. From maintaining their weight to sustaining their strength and keeping up with their younger peers, these celebrities summarize their advice in three easy steps: eating healthy, exercising regularly, and having the right mindset.
Sure, none of us can permanently fight the effects of Father Time on our bodies, but there are multiple ways we can maintain our health and fitness we learned from these celebrity fitness tips.
