The MAIDeSITe Electric Chair Lift is a must-have for anyone who cares for an older adult who experiences falls. Simple to use, this electric chair assist provides a comfortable, smooth, and safe 20-inch lift up from the floor. Hopefully, it is a piece of equipment you will not need to use frequently, but a sturdy, high-quality electric chair lift in the house that works well provides great peace of mind.
Introduction to the MAIDeSITe Electric Chair Lift
The MAIDeSITe Electric Chair Lift helps individuals go from sitting to standing easily. As a caregiver for my 92-year-old father who occasionally falls and cannot get back up on his own, I greatly appreciate this chair lift. When Dad falls, I bring him this chair and he can scoot himself up onto the seat from the floor. The chair lifts him into a sitting position and he can then stand up from there, allowing him to maintain his dignity. Growing older is difficult, particularly for those who prefer to help themselves rather than depend on someone else after an embarrassing fall.
The MAIDeSITe Electric Chair Lift Components
The MAIDeSITe Electric Chair Lift consists of a chair lift, charger, controller, and a small piece that connects to the wall so you can hang the chair when not in use. The pieces arrived well packed in styrofoam in a large box inside an even larger box, with the lift already assembled. All parts were in good shape and ready to go. Once all components were unpacked, all I needed to do was charge the controller in an outlet, and then once charged, connect the controller to the chair. It was very easy to get everything set up and ready to go.
The MAIDeSITe Electric Chair Lift Features
Battery Operated (Rechargeable)
The electric chair lift, equipped with rechargeable batteries, requires no power supply when in use.
Waterproof
The lift is fully waterproof, so it works well even in the shower or bathtub.
Stability
The frame is made with high-strength supporting steel rods which provide a very stable lift. In addition, six suction cups at the bottom of the lift affix to both the floor and tub, providing further stability when the lift is in motion.
Weight Capacity
This electric chair lift has a weight capacity of 300 lbs.
Lightweight and Portable
This product weighs 29 lbs, which is impressive for a product with a motor. I would expect it to weigh more. The lift folds up easily for moving and storage.
Materials
The chair itself is well-constructed and made from hard plastic created from a combination of polypropylene66 and polycarbonate. It appears very durable and I would expect it to hold up well for a long time.
Ease of Use
The chairlift was a breeze to charge and set up. The controller was simple to use with only a few buttons: Up, Down, and Emergency Stop. Going from the folded storage position to ready-to-use was quick and easy. The suction cups adhered perfectly to both the floor and the tub upon testing. Finally, the two foldable side wings, designed to help an elderly individual slide easily from the ground to the chair were a bonus and made it easy for my Dad to get himself into the chair. The electric chair lift functioned exactly as described and was extremely easy to use.
Performance
I enjoyed testing this electric chair lift. It was very simple to use and worked exceptionally well.
I first charged the controller, which I then connected to the back of the chair once ready. While the controller charged, I tested the suction cups on the bottom of the electric chair lift. I admit I was somewhat skeptical that they would work well, but they did in fact adhere securely both in the tub and on our wood floor. I tested the lift mechanism with a person sitting in the lift chair on each of the two surfaces and it worked great. Next, I tested the electric chair lift in a room with a rug. I did not think the chair would be stable without a hard smooth surface underneath, however, I found upon testing that it provided a similar experience on the rug as it did on the floor. The suction cups did not adhere to the rug, of course, and the chair seemed a tiny bit wobbly. However, once someone sat in the chair, it felt stable and secure, and not at all unsafe.
For my next test, I put the chair next to my Dad. He was able to easily slide from the floor into the chair with the help of the foldable side panels. Once Dad settled in, I used the controller to lift him. We went up all the way the full 20 inches, which was exactly the height he needed. I first asked him to then stand up, which he did easily. Then I asked him to try the lift again, but this time to transition to the bed instead of going to a standing position. As the seat leans back, he was able to easily get into his bed.
The lift mechanism worked very well, providing a slow, smooth lift up from the floor. The motor was quiet. Finally, the seat was comfortable and stable, and my father felt very secure when going up.
I really like the portability aspect of this electric chair lift. It easily folds flat, and then can be lifted or dragged where you need it. I say dragged because, at 29 lbs, this is not a piece of equipment I can easily lift myself. Someone else might not have a problem, but it was heavy for me as a petite 61-year-old woman. A set of wheels added to the lift would be helpful for me if that’s a possibility for future models, but I can manage without it.
Overall, I believe this is an exceptional product, one that every caregiver should consider having in the house with an elderly loved one in case of a fall.
Support
The electric chair lift came with an 11-page booklet that included both instructions and pictures. While helpful, this booklet needs updating and additional information included. I decided to contact support and received an immediate response. I wanted to know why the instruction booklet focused on using this product in the bathroom when I was asked to test it for general use. It was a little confusing. My contact explained that the lift is definitely for general use and shared with me that the booklet is currently in the process of redesign.
I had some other questions that the booklet did not answer either. For example, I wondered how to determine how much battery life was still available. I found a review from a previous customer explaining that you can push any button on the controller and the indicator will be green if the remaining battery life is >30%, blue if it is 10%-30%, or red if it is <10%. I recommend that the company include this type of information in the revised instruction booklet as well.
All in all, I thought the support was fantastic. MAIDeSITe aims to please, wants your feedback, and is happy to answer any questions. This type of service is not all that common these days, so I greatly appreciated their time and attention.
